Thomas Brassey 3D Scan | Preserving Chester’s Railway Heritage with the Creality Otter LiteThe Legacy of Thomas Brassey Thomas Brassey (1805 to 1870) was the engine behind the Industrial Revolution. Born in Cheshire, he built one third of Britain's railways and one in every twenty miles of track globally. This monument at Chester Railway Station—a building Brassey himself constructed in 1848—honors his "man without faults" reputation and his massive impact on global infrastructure.Digital Preservation with the Creality Otter Lite To capture the intricate details of Andy Edwards’ bronze work, I used the Creality Otter Lite. This portable, wireless 3D scanner was essential for working in the high-traffic environment of a major railway station.Despite the challenging outdoor lighting and the dark bronze surface of the statue, the Otter Lite’s 0.05mm accuracy successfully captured:The fine lines of the railway map Brassey is holding. The industrial textures of the bronze-cast track and sleepers at the base. The weathered patina of the monument, preserving it as a digital twin for historians.
