I stopped by today to scan the John Hulley statue using the Creality Otter Lite. I had it on an extender pole because of the height, and the bright sun was hitting it straight on as well. I thought it might cause problems, but the Lite handled it perfectly. It locked on fast, kept tracking and the whole scan was done quicker than I expected.
John Hulley was born in Liverpool in 1832 and became one of the earliest champions of physical fitness in the country. He opened the Liverpool Gymnasium and pushed the idea that exercise should be part of daily life at a time when hardly anyone was talking about it. In the 1860s he organised major athletic festivals that drew big crowds and set the foundations for organised sport in Britain.
Those events played a big part in the creation of the National Olympian Association, which helped inspire what later became the modern Olympic movement. Hulley was well ahead of his time and his influence spread far beyond Liverpool.
The statue stands as a reminder of the role he played in shaping sport and physical education.
