came across this incredible old carved chair inside Liverpool Cathedral and had to scan it. i did forget to take photographs of this as there was a lot of people wanting to look at it .. so going back tomorrow to get some 🙂

Scanned using the Creality Otter this come out better than i thought it would as i wasn't a 100% on this scan.

Across the top it reads:
“I believe in the communion of saints”

That line comes from the Apostles’ Creed and it basically means the church is not just the people alive today.. it’s everyone who believed before us as well.. all connected as one.

The detail carved into the back panel is unreal and it is full of meaning:

The bishop’s mitre at the top links it to the cathedral and church leadership
The cross sits right in the centre
The keys of St Peter are carved into the shield which is a classic symbol of the church
The Liver Bird shows the connection to Liverpool
The pelican feeding its young is an old symbol of sacrifice and faith

This is not just a chair.. it is part of the cathedral’s history and craftsmanship, the type of carved stall work you would expect in a place like this.

This is exactly why I love scanning these spots.. you are not only capturing the shape, you are preserving the story and the detail as well.
