Was out today scanning the Mother Redcap Statue in Wallasey it took about 15 minutes or so to complete, the Otter scanned this without any problems and it turned out fantastic...Scanned with the Creality Otter and Wireless Bridge The Mother Redcap statue in Liscard, Wallasey, is a striking tribute to the area's rich and mysterious smuggling past. Located on the west side of Liscard Crescent, the statue was created by artist Robbie Stocker, born in 1951.This sculpture commemorates the infamous Mother Redcap’s tavern, originally built in 1595 by the Mainwaring family. Positioned along the River Mersey shoreline, the tavern became well known in the 18th century as a haven for smugglers and privateers. The tavern’s owner, believed to be Poll Jones, earned the nickname Mother Redcap. She was known for hiding contraband and offering shelter to smugglers looking to evade customs officers. The legend of Mother Redcap has become part of local folklore, symbolizing a rebellious and secretive chapter of Wirral’s maritime history. The statue captures this story in bronze, depicting figures from the smuggling era and offering locals and visitors a glimpse into Wallasey’s darker, salt-soaked past. It’s not just a work of public art—it’s a reminder of the stories that shaped the region’s coastal identity.
